Wheel Inn Inc. donates to scholarship fund
The Mansfield University Foundation Inc. will offer 10 incoming university students $1,000 scholarships thanks to a recent $10,000 gift from the Wheel Inn Inc.
The scholarships have been earmarked for students from Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan and Tioga counties who achieve a score of 1,000 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and a class rank in the top two-fifths of their high school class.
The Wheel Inn, a private social club of approximately 700 members that has operated in northern Lycoming County since the early parts of the century, has made scholarship contributions in support of area students for more than 20 years. Tom Phinney of Blossburg, who chairs the clubs scholarship committee, says this is the first year the club has chosen to support students choosing to further their educations at Mansfield.
Leslie Folmer, vice president for development, says the university is in the process of reviewing the credentials of students admitted for the 1999-2000 academic year to determine scholarship recipients.
The Mansfield University Foundation Inc. is the official gift receiving organization for the University. The Foundation's scholarship endowment grew by more than $1 million in fiscal year 1997-98.
