Trustees approve Presidential Search Committee recommendations
Presidential Search Committee Chairman Lewis Lee writes:
The Council of Trustees of Mansfield University met late yesterday afternoon to receive the final report of the Presidential Search Committee. The Search Committee held its final meeting yesterday to review additional information about the candidates, including feedback from those of you who had met the candidates during their recent visits to the campus. It was the Council's desire to inform the university community immediately of our actions in response to the committee's report.
Therefore, I am extremely pleased to announce the names of the three leading candidates for the presidency of Mansfield University whom the Council has recommended to Chancellor James McCormick and the Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education. The three candidates being recommended are Dr. Teshome Abebe, Dr. John Halstead, and Dr. Samuel Rankin. These are outstanding, experienced higher education leaders who have emerged from an extensive national search.
The Council has been informed that the Board of Governors will interview the candidates on February 11 and the announcement of the selection of our next president is likely to occur shortly thereafter. The tentative plan is to introduce the new president to the university community on February 13.
On behalf of the Council of Trustees, I want to commend the members of the Presidential Search Committee for their outstanding service to Mansfield University. It has been my pleasure to serve with the members of the committee which performed with distinction as evidenced by the quality of our finalist candidates. The members devoted countless hours to the search for which we are deeply indebted.
Finally, I want to thank the many faculty, staff, students, administrators, alumni and local community leaders who met with the five candidates who visited the campus during the past two weeks. We received many favorable comments from the candidates about the warm and helpful receptions they experienced during their visits.
